The author, like her fictional creation, Dr. Mary Paul was a professor at New York University. She spent a good part of each year at her home on the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Valley, Florida . The love of Florida and the waterway lured her into early retirement. She began a new lifestyle, becoming active in her community when she wasn’t fishing, working in her large yard and tending her German Shepherds, until she was elected as a County Commissioner.
She is an advocate of the environment and has worked to preserve the wetlands, birds, animals and trees. She fears the rapid growth in Florida will leave little of its charm for future generations. After her term in office, she returned to fishing, increased her golfing and began sharing her love of Florida and its inhabitants, even the two-legged ones, in these fictional/real stories.
